A suspended Google Business Profile has been taken down because Google believes it breaks a guideline, and it usually disappears from Google Maps. A disabled profile has been turned off so you cannot manage it, and it may still show on Maps. Both can be appealed through Google's appeals tool.

What Google says

Google's help page treats the two together: "We may suspend or disable Business Profiles that don't follow our guidelines," and both are handled through the same appeals tool. So while the label differs, the starting point is the same: compare the profile with the guidelines and gather evidence.

Local search specialists add useful detail. Sterling Sky, a well-known local SEO agency, wrote in November 2024 that a suspended profile is removed from Maps and can only come back by fixing the issue and requesting reinstatement, while a disabled profile often stays visible on Maps but cannot be managed by the owner.

Two related statuses

  • Account restriction. Your whole Google account is restricted: profiles you manage are suspended and you cannot create or claim new ones. Google says to appeal the account restriction first, on your My accounts page.
  • Removed profile. The public cannot see it and owners cannot act on it, but owners and managers can request reinstatement.

What to do if your profile is suspended

  1. Find the likely cause using our 12 common reasons.
  2. Fix it once and gather matching documents.
  3. Submit one appeal. See how to get reinstated.

What to do if your profile is disabled

  1. Check your email for any notice from Google about the profile.
  2. Compare the profile with the guidelines in the same way as a suspension.
  3. Use the appeals tool to see the profile's status and whether it is eligible for appeal.
  4. If the notice suggests Google doubts the business exists at that address, see "Business Does Not Exist".

Frequently asked questions

Is disabled worse than suspended?

Not necessarily. Both are handled through Google's appeals tool. What matters is the cause and whether you can show evidence that the business is real and eligible.

Can I still see my reviews if my profile is suspended?

While suspended, the profile is usually not visible on Maps, so customers cannot see it. A reinstated profile normally returns with its existing information.

Should I create a new profile if mine is disabled?

No. Google advises against creating a new profile for the same business; it can create a duplicate and harm your appeal.
