If your Google Business Profile has been suspended, do not rush to edit it or create a new one. Google allows only one appeal per decision, so the first 24 hours are best spent understanding why it happened, fixing what is clearly wrong and gathering the documents Google accepts.

A suspension usually means Google believes the profile does not follow its guidelines. Customers may stop seeing you on Google Maps and Search, so it feels urgent. But a rushed appeal that fails can leave you in a worse position than a careful one submitted a day later.

Hour 1: Confirm what kind of problem you have

Sign in to the Google account that manages the profile and check exactly what Google is telling you. There are a few different situations, and each is fixed differently:

What you seeWhat it usually means
One profile marked suspendedGoogle believes that profile breaks a guideline.
All your profiles affected and you cannot add new onesYour Google account itself may be restricted. Google says you must appeal the account restriction first, on your My accounts page.
Profile shown as disabledGoogle has turned the profile off. See Suspended vs Disabled.
Profile removedThe public cannot view it and you cannot act on it, but owners and managers can request reinstatement.

Also check your email (including spam) for messages from Google about the profile. They sometimes mention the area of concern.

Hours 1–4: Do not make it worse

  • Do not create a new profile for the same business. Google specifically warns against this, and duplicates are themselves a guideline problem.
  • Do not submit an appeal yet. Google says appeals can only be submitted once.
  • Do not make lots of quick edits. Fix genuine errors only, and keep a note of what you changed and why.

Hours 4–12: Find the likely cause

Google rarely spells out the exact reason, so compare your profile against its guidelines. The most common problems are:

  • Extra words in the business name. Google does not allow keywords, taglines, locations or service descriptions in the name. "Smith Plumbing" is fine; "Smith Plumbing – 24/7 Emergency Plumber Dallas" is not.
  • An ineligible address. P.O. boxes, mailboxes and virtual offices are not allowed. Co-working spaces are only allowed with clear signage and staff present during business hours.
  • A service-area business showing its address. If you do not serve customers at your address, Google says to hide it.
  • Duplicate profiles for the same location.
  • Categories used as keywords rather than describing what the business is.
  • Recent changes to name, address or category just before the suspension.

Hours 12–24: Gather your evidence

Google's appeals page lists the documents it accepts. The business name and address on each one should match your profile exactly:

  • Official business registration or business licence
  • Tax certificates
  • Utility bills (electricity, phone, water or internet) showing the business address

It also helps to have clear photos of your permanent signage and shopfront, or of your branded vehicle and equipment if you are a service-area business.

When you are ready: submit one strong appeal

Use Google's Business Profile appeals tool: confirm the account, choose the profile and the decision you are appealing, add your information and documents, and submit. Google emails you the decision. Our appeals tool guide walks through each screen.

If the appeal is not approved, Google may allow an additional review only if you have new evidence that was not in the original appeal. That is why it pays to get the first appeal right.

Frequently asked questions

Will my reviews come back if my profile is reinstated?

Generally a reinstated profile returns with its existing information. If something looks missing after reinstatement, check again after a few days and contact Google support if it does not return.

Should I create a new profile while I wait?

No. Google's appeals page specifically says not to create a new profile for the same business. It can create a duplicate and complicate your appeal.

How many times can I appeal?

Google says appeals can only be submitted once. An additional review is possible only after a denial, and only with new evidence.

Can someone else appeal for me?

An owner or manager of the profile submits the appeal. A specialist can prepare the case and documents with you so the one appeal is as strong as possible.
