Changing your business address is one of the most common triggers for a Google Business Profile suspension. Google re-checks the profile when the address changes, and if the new address, signage or documents do not line up, the profile can be suspended. Recovery means proving the new location is real and eligible.

Why an address change can trigger a suspension

The address is one of the most important facts on your profile. When it changes, Google may look again at whether the business meets its guidelines. Problems usually come from one of these situations:

  • The new address is not eligible. P.O. boxes, remote mailboxes and virtual offices are not accepted. A co-working space only qualifies with clear signage and staff present during business hours.
  • You became a service-area business but kept the address visible. Google says service-area businesses should hide their address if they do not serve customers there.
  • Signage and documents still show the old address. Your website, registration and utility bills should all match the new location.
  • Several edits at once. Changing name, category and address together can make the profile look like a different business.
  • A duplicate was created. Some owners create a new profile for the new location instead of moving the existing one. Google allows only one profile per location.

How to recover a suspended profile after a move

  1. Check the address is eligible. If you moved to a virtual office or mailbox, the profile cannot be reinstated there. If you now work from home and travel to customers, switch to a service-area profile and hide the address.
  2. Make everything match. Update your website, signage and directory listings so the name and address match the profile exactly.
  3. Gather proof for the new address. Google accepts business registration or a licence, tax certificates and utility bills (electricity, phone, water or internet). A lease can also help show you operate there.
  4. Photograph the new location. Permanent signage with the business name, the shopfront and the street are strong supporting evidence.
  5. Remove any duplicate profile you created for the new address, rather than keeping two.
  6. Appeal once. Explain that the business moved, give the new address and attach the documents. See our appeals tool guide.

How to move without getting suspended

  • Put up permanent signage at the new location before you change the profile.
  • Update your registration and get at least one utility bill at the new address.
  • Change only the address, not the name and category at the same time.
  • Edit the existing profile; do not create a new one.
  • Expect Google to ask you to verify again, possibly by video. Our video verification guide explains how.
Moving to a different city? If you are closing one location and opening another, move the existing profile rather than marking it closed and starting again, so you keep your reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my reviews if I move my Google Business Profile?

Moving an existing profile to the new address keeps it as the same profile. Creating a new profile starts from zero and risks a duplicate, so edit the existing one.

Can I use my home address?

Yes, if you serve customers there. If you only travel to customers, Google says to set up as a service-area business and hide the address.

My new office is in a co-working space. Is that allowed?

Only if your office has clear signage and is staffed by your team during your stated business hours. A desk without signage does not qualify.
