A Google Business Profile verification video needs to prove three things: where your business is, that it really exists, and that you manage it. Below are example shot lists for common business types you can follow in one continuous take of at least 30 seconds.

Before you start, remember Google's rules: record live through your Business Profile on a phone, in one unedited take with no breaks, and leave out bank, tax or ID numbers, private information and other people's faces.

The three-part formula

PartWhat Google wants to seeGood examples
1. LocationThat you are at the address on your profileStreet sign, building number, landmarks, neighbouring businesses
2. ExistenceThat the business is realPermanent signage with your exact business name, showroom, tools, equipment, branded clothing, business cards
3. ManagementThat you run itUnlocking the door, the till or point-of-sale system, kitchen, storeroom, a job in progress, a permit or bill in the business name

Example 1: Retail shop or salon (storefront)

  1. Start across the street, showing the street sign or the building number.
  2. Pan to neighbouring shops, then to your shopfront and permanent sign with the full business name.
  3. Walk to the door and unlock it with your keys.
  4. Inside, show the counter and point-of-sale system or appointment book.
  5. Finish in a staff-only area such as the stockroom or back office.

Example 2: Restaurant or café (storefront)

  1. Show the street, nearby businesses and your sign with the exact restaurant name.
  2. Walk in through the customer entrance, showing the dining area and menu board.
  3. Show the till or ordering system.
  4. Walk into the kitchen and show equipment in use or ready for service.

Example 3: Clinic or professional office (storefront)

  1. Show the building exterior, street number and your business sign. In a shared building, show the directory or lobby sign with your business name too.
  2. Walk to your office door and its nameplate.
  3. Unlock the door and show reception.
  4. Show a staff-only room, such as a treatment room or file storage, without showing patient or client information.
If you are in a co-working space, Google only allows a storefront profile if your office has clear signage and is staffed during business hours. Otherwise you may need a service-area profile.

Example 4: Plumber, electrician or other trade (service-area)

  1. Show where your business is based: the street sign or a landmark near your base address.
  2. Show your branded work vehicle, including the business name on the side.
  3. Open the vehicle and show your tools and equipment.
  4. Show proof of management: unlock the van, show a permit, or show an invoice or utility bill with your business name. Cover any account numbers.

Example 5: Home-based or mobile business (service-area)

  1. Show the street sign or a landmark near your base.
  2. Show your workspace and the tools or equipment you use, such as a cleaning kit, grooming tools or camera gear.
  3. Show branded items: business cards, uniform or branded bags.
  4. Show a business document in your business name, such as a permit or invoice, with sensitive numbers covered.

Home-based businesses that do not serve customers at home should be set up as service-area businesses with the address hidden, as Google's guidelines require.

Five mistakes that cause a fail

  • Stopping and restarting the recording. It must be one continuous take.
  • Filming the sign from too close, so the street and surroundings are not visible.
  • A sign that shows a different name from the profile.
  • Showing the business but never proving you manage it.
  • Filming in the dark, so names and numbers cannot be read.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to talk in the verification video?

Google's requirements do not mention narration. Some owners find it helps them stay on track, but the important part is what the camera shows.

What if I do not have a permanent sign?

Google says a business without permanent on-site signage should be listed as a service-area business. Service-area businesses can prove they exist with tools, equipment, vehicles and branded items instead.

Can staff or customers appear in the video?

Google asks you not to include other people's faces. Film at a quiet time or keep the camera pointed away from people.
