When Google Business Profile video verification is not working, the cause is usually one of three things: a technical problem with recording or uploading, a profile detail that blocks verification, or a video that did not meet Google's requirements. These nine fixes cover all three.
Technical problems
1. The upload keeps failing
Google's own advice is simple: if the upload fails, try again. In practice, switch to a strong Wi-Fi connection, keep the app open until the upload finishes, and make sure your phone has enough free storage.
2. You cannot find the option to record
Video verification must be recorded and uploaded from a mobile device through your Business Profile. If you are on a computer, open your profile on your phone instead. If there is no video option at all, Google has not offered it to your profile: verification methods are set by Google and cannot be changed.
3. The app will not use your camera
Check that the Google app or Google Maps has permission to use the camera and microphone in your phone's settings, then try again. Updating the app to the latest version also helps.
4. You tried to upload a saved video
Pre-recorded videos are not allowed. The footage has to be captured live in the verification flow, in one take.
Profile problems
5. The name or address does not match reality
The name in your video must match the name on your profile, and the location must match the address or service area. Fix keywords in the name, wrong suite numbers or an outdated address before recording again.
6. Your business type is set up wrongly
Google says a business without permanent on-site signage should be a service-area business. If you are set up as a storefront without a sign, verification will struggle. Online-only businesses are not eligible for a Business Profile at all.
7. You edited the profile during review
Changing the name, address or category while verification is pending can send you back to the start. Make changes first, then verify, then leave the profile alone until the result arrives.
Review problems
8. The review came back "Not successful"
Google shares the reasons when a video fails. Record a new video that includes everything from the first one plus whatever was missing. Common reasons include the business name not visible on the storefront, the surrounding area not shown, and no proof of authorisation to operate. See Video Verification Rejected by Google?
9. "Get verified" keeps coming back
If the "Get verified" button reappears, Google could not fully verify the business. Try again, using another method if one is offered. If you see a "Review issues" notification after a video, select it and follow the on-screen instructions. If nothing works, Google suggests contacting Business Profile support.
Quick checklist before you try again
- Recording on a phone, inside your Business Profile, on good Wi-Fi.
- Profile name, address or service area and category are correct.
- A plan for one continuous take of at least 30 seconds.
- Location, proof of existence and proof of management all in shot.
- No sensitive numbers, private information or other people's faces.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my verification video not upload?
Usually a weak connection or the app closing mid-upload. Google's advice is to try the upload again; using Wi-Fi and keeping the app open until it finishes usually solves it.
Why is there no video verification option on my profile?
Google decides which verification methods each profile can use, and they cannot be changed. If video is not offered, use one of the methods that is shown.
How long until I know if my video worked?
Google says reviews can take up to five business days, and occasionally longer.
